DIGITAL PRODUCT GUIDE

How to Sell Digital Products Without an Audience

You don’t need a large following to start. You need a useful product, a specific buyer and a way to bring the two together.

By Genesize

THE SHORT ANSWER

You can sell digital products without your own audience by partnering with a creator, reaching people already looking for help, or serving your existing business contacts. Start with one clear problem and one route to potential customers. Then connect a credible offer to working checkout and delivery.

01 / A SPECIFIC START

Choose one buyer and one useful problem

“An ebook for everyone who wants a better life” is difficult to sell. “A client onboarding guide for freelance designers starting their first paid projects” tells a buyer who it is for and why it might help.

Before creating the product, find out what that person struggles with. Talk to potential customers, read questions in relevant communities and ask what they have already tried. Look for a task they want to complete or a decision they find difficult.

Turn that into a simple offer: “This resource helps [specific person] do [specific task].” AI can help organize ideas, but an AI-generated idea is not evidence that people want to buy it.

AN ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE

The Client Onboarding Guide

Who it helps
Freelance designers preparing a client kickoff.
The problem
Scattered briefs, missing files and unclear next steps.
What’s inside
A brief checklist, materials tracker, kickoff agenda and follow-up email templates.
The promise
A practical process for preparing an organized project start.

This is a sample product idea, not a customer case study or a claim of sales results.

02 / DISTRIBUTION

Choose your first route to potential customers

No audience does not have to mean no access to buyers. Choose the route that fits your experience and the people your product helps.

01

Partner with a relevant creator

A creator has relationships with an audience; you can contribute product development, the sales funnel and launch work. The fit between that audience and the product matters more than simply finding a large account.

02

Help people where they already ask questions

Share a useful example or answer in a relevant community, following its promotion rules. Publish practical articles around problems your buyer searches for. These are ways to earn attention over time, not instant or guaranteed traffic.

03

Start with existing business relationships

If you already work with clients, your product can answer a question they repeatedly ask. Offer a useful resource to people who want it, then invite interested recipients to learn about the paid offer.

Pick one route first. A focused test makes it easier to learn which message resonates. Avoid scraped email lists, unsolicited bulk messages and posting the same sales pitch everywhere.

03 / THE GROWTH OPERATOR ROUTE

Work with a creator who already reaches your buyer

Consider a designer who regularly shares useful advice with new freelancers. An operator could help turn the creator’s existing expertise into the Client Onboarding Guide. The creator brings subject knowledge and audience trust; the operator helps build and launch the product.

Agree on the work before building: who contributes the expertise, who approves the content, who handles customer support and how each person is compensated. A partnership should be based on permission and clear responsibilities.

How the shared workspace works in Genesize

  1. The creator opens Workspace access, enters the operator’s Genesize account email, selects Create invitation and uses Copy invitation to share the link.
  2. The operator signs in with their own account, accepts the invitation and selects the creator’s workspace.
  3. They collaborate on the product, Store and funnel using the creator’s plan capacity.

The creator owns the workspace and sales go to its connected Stripe account. The operator does not need a separate paid plan to work in an active creator workspace. Compensation is arranged separately; Genesize does not automatically split revenue.

Start with a small, specific product that fits what the creator already teaches. Ask the creator to review the resource and the sales copy before sharing it with their audience.

04 / SOMETHING WORTH BUYING

Create a useful resource, then review it

Your product should help the buyer take the next step, not just contain more pages. For our example, a clear kickoff checklist and an editable email template may be more useful than a long explanation of why client onboarding matters.

In Genesize, select New product, choose Quick Create or Advanced Create, and choose the format that fits the resource. An ebook suits an explanatory guide; a template pack suits reusable materials.

  • Describe who it is for and what they should be able to do after using it.
  • Add your own experience and source material through the Expertise library.
  • Review the draft in Content. Correct inaccuracies and add concrete examples.
  • Use Branding and Design & exports to prepare the cover and finished files.

Ask someone who fits the target buyer to try the resource. Find out which steps are unclear or missing. Use that feedback to improve the product before a wider launch.

05 / FROM RESOURCE TO OFFER

Make it easy to understand, buy and access

A good sales page answers the buyer’s practical questions: Is this for me? What will I receive? How will it help? What does it cost? How do I get it?

  • Show the product. Include a cover, a clear contents list and a useful preview.
  • Explain the outcome. Describe what the resource helps people do without promising results you cannot support.
  • Make the offer clear. Display the price, delivery format and relevant purchase terms.
  • Answer real objections. Explain experience requirements, what is included and what is not.
  • Use one obvious next step. A clear purchase button is easier to follow than several competing actions.

Select Publish & sell from your Genesize product to prepare its Store listing. For a paid offer, complete the store’s Stripe connection and make sure payments are ready. Buyers do not need a paid Genesize subscription to purchase your product.

You can also select Generate sales funnel and choose Sell product. Genesize uses the existing product to draft an editable sales page connected to checkout and delivery. Review its copy, preview it on your phone and publish the page before sharing the link.

Storefront or sales funnel?

Your storefront gives visitors a place to browse your products. A sales funnel focuses attention on a particular offer and its next step. For a creator’s post promoting one resource, the focused funnel link is often the clearer choice.

Use genuine feedback when you have it, with permission. Until then, let the product preview and your explanation do the work. Invented testimonials, fake scarcity and unsupported income claims do not make an offer more credible.

06 / A USEFUL FIRST STEP

Offer a free resource if buyers need to know you first

For examples and a practical creation brief, read the step-by-step guide to creating a lead magnet.

Someone discovering your work may not be ready to buy. A small free resource can demonstrate the quality of the paid product without asking them to commit immediately.

For the Client Onboarding Guide, the free resource could be a Client Brief Checklist. It solves one part of the problem; the paid guide adds the materials tracker, kickoff process and follow-up templates. Both should be useful on their own.

In Genesize, publish the resource as a Free Store product and choose a Generate leads funnel. To capture a lead and then introduce a paid offer, choose Sell + build a list; you can use another published free resource for delivery.

Ask separately for permission to send marketing emails. Requesting a resource or buying a product is not automatic permission to receive a campaign.

On plans that include CRM and email, you can organize customers and prepare follow-ups for consenting recipients. Review and activate campaigns yourself. During the trial, email drafting and verified-owner previews are available; customer campaign sending unlocks after the first payment on eligible plans.

07 / LEARN FROM REAL ACTIVITY

Share one offer, then find the next thing to improve

Start with a focused launch: one product, one page and one distribution route. For the partnership example, the creator could share a useful client-kickoff tip and link to the related guide. The message should make the connection between the tip and the product obvious.

Use actual funnel activity rather than guesses. Genesize tracks visitor sessions, leads, checkout starts and paid orders. Free resource claims are separate from paid sales, and blocked tracking can cause visitor counts to be incomplete.

Very few visitors?

Work on distribution. Check that the link is visible and the audience understands why to open it.

Visitors, but few checkout starts?

Review the offer. Make the buyer, contents, preview and price easier to understand.

Checkout starts, but few purchases?

Check the purchase flow and payment readiness. Ask interested buyers what held them back.

Small samples can be misleading. Combine the numbers with customer feedback and change one important thing at a time. Revenue is also different from profit: account for payment fees, your operating costs and any refunds.

On eligible plans, the Growth Agent can use your workspace activity to suggest what to improve. It does not replace distribution work or guarantee sales.

08 / BEFORE YOU SHARE THE LINK

Your first-launch checklist

  • I can name the buyer and the problem this product helps solve.
  • The resource has been reviewed for accuracy and usefulness.
  • The page shows the contents, delivery format and price clearly.
  • The published page looks good on a phone and its links work.
  • Checkout is ready and product delivery has been tested.
  • I have one realistic route to reach potential customers.
  • Any marketing follow-up goes only to people who have consented.
  • I know which real visitor, lead and sales metrics to review.

You do not need to build every channel before starting. Create a resource people can use, make the offer understandable and learn from the first people who see it.

09 / COMMON QUESTIONS

Selling without a following: FAQs

Can I sell digital products without followers?

Yes. You can reach relevant buyers through a creator partnership, useful content, communities or existing business relationships. You still need a distribution route and an offer people want; a follower count alone does not determine whether someone will buy.

Will Genesize bring me customers automatically?

No. Genesize helps you create the product, build its sales page, connect checkout and deliver it. You choose how to attract visitors. On eligible plans, its customer, email and Growth Agent tools help you follow up and improve the workflow.

Who receives the revenue in a creator partnership?

Sales go to the connected Stripe account for the creator-owned workspace. Genesize does not take a platform cut of Store sales; payment-processing fees apply. Any compensation or revenue share between the creator and operator is arranged separately, not paid out automatically by Genesize.

Can I start with a free digital product?

Yes. Publish a Free product in your Store and use a Generate leads funnel to offer it. A free resource can help people experience your work before considering a paid product. Capturing an email for delivery does not automatically give permission for marketing emails.

Which Genesize plan do I need?

Starter includes product creation, Storefront, checkout, delivery and sales funnels. Higher plans add CRM, email follow-ups, Growth Agent guidance and more capacity. Choose the tools you need now and compare the current limits on the pricing page.
