CHOOSE THE EXPERIENCE YOU WANT TO SELL

Genesize vs Teachable: Which fits your product?

Both help you turn knowledge into something you can sell. The right choice depends on what you want to create, how people will learn and what the full bill includes.

Published by Genesize, one of the platforms compared. We checked our implementation and the linked official Teachable sources on October 28, 2026. This is a documentation-based comparison, not an independent review or a hands-on performance test.

CONSIDER GENESIZE IF

You want to build a written product and prepare it to sell.

Turn your notes into an ebook, written course or toolkit. Review the draft, prepare its files, and connect the offer, storefront, checkout and buyer access.

CONSIDER TEACHABLE IF

You need a broader school and student experience.

Evaluate its learning tools when your offer needs multimedia lessons, assessments or a student app. Choose the plan that supports your actual teaching promise.

01 / THE OVERVIEW

Genesize vs Teachable at a glance

A written guide can be the complete product. A course school can support a different kind of learning. Start by naming the format, practice and support the buyer needs, then compare the tools.

02 / CREATE THE MATERIAL

Both use AI. Compare what you can finish.

Genesize helps draft written chapters and lessons from your expertise. You can edit the content, prepare a cover, export supported PDF, DOCX or text files, and use the product as the starting point for an editable sales funnel. Manual editing, design changes and exports do not use AI credits.

Teachable’s Course Starter is also an AI authoring tool: its official page describes drafts of curriculum, content and a sales page. It also describes quiz generation and video subtitle and translation tools. It would be misleading to call Teachable only a place to upload a finished course.

Give each tool the same approved notes and a small task. Inspect the explanation, worked example and exercise. Can a reader use the lesson without you supplying missing steps? Check facts and remove generic passages before judging the result.

If the final file matters more than a classroom, read our ebook creation walkthrough. If you need a learning path, start with the five-lesson mini-course example.

03 / THE LEARNER EXPERIENCE

A written reader and a hosted school do different jobs

Genesize delivers purchased written courses through private buyer access. Learners can read lessons, mark them complete manually and resume saved progress. Supported downloads give them another way to use the material. A completion tick records progress; it does not grade the learner’s work.

Genesize does not currently include video hosting, graded quizzes, course certificates or creator-facing learner reports. Communities and paid memberships remain a future release. Do not choose it for a promise that depends on those tools.

Teachable’s student experience covers video, audio, text and other lesson content, along with learning checks and student apps. Assess the specific tool you need on the relevant plan, rather than assuming every school feature is included at entry level.

For example, a consultant’s written client-process guide may need a clear PDF and private reading access. A training program built around video demonstrations and assessment needs a different test. The stronger choice is the one that supports the offer you can actually deliver.

04 / UNDERSTAND THE BILL

Genesize and Teachable pricing

Selected public plans in USD, monthly billing; checked October 28, 2026
PlanMonthly subscriptionCapacity to compare
Genesize Starter$343 saved projects; 1,000 monthly AI credits
Genesize Creator$5810 saved projects; 2,500 monthly AI credits
Teachable Starter$395 published products
Teachable Builder$8910 published products
Teachable Growth$18950 published products

Sources: Genesize plans and Teachable pricing. These are not equivalent plans. Teachable’s annual view advertises monthly equivalents of $29, $69 and $139 respectively; annual billing is a different commitment. Check the amount due upfront.

Teachable counts a live course, coaching offer or download as a published product; unpublished drafts are excluded. Genesize’s saved-project cap is a different measure. Compare the actual catalog you plan to keep, not just matching numbers.

Separate the plan fee from processing

Genesize takes no platform percentage of Store sales. Stripe processing and applicable optional services remain payable. Teachable’s current fee guide separates its Starter 7.5% plan fee from processing; Builder and higher plans have a 0% plan fee. Gateway, payment method, country and payment-bundle choices still affect the total.

A worked example, not a revenue forecast

Assume $1,000 in monthly sales subject to Teachable’s Starter plan fee. The plan fee is $1,000 × 7.5% = $75. Add the $39 monthly subscription: $114 before processing, optional services and other costs. Builder’s $89 subscription has no plan-percentage fee, so the same partial comparison is $89.

The $50 subscription difference divided by 7.5% is about $666.67 in monthly sales. This is only the point where those two Teachable costs balance under these assumptions. It is not a reason to buy an unsuitable plan or a claim that the overall fees are identical.

Plan-fee basis: Teachable’s transaction-fee table. The calculation is our own simplified example.

The same fee guide describes Standard and Global payment bundles, with different additional charges. Review the actual setup instead of treating “0%” as “no fees.” Use the free fee and break-even calculator with your own inputs.

Check free enrollments and imports separately

Teachable’s September 28, 2026 usage policy distinguishes paid gateway enrollments from other enrollment methods. For schools on the current policy, more than 100 countable students added outside paid gateway transactions can incur $0.50 per student per month. The policy includes free or zero-price enrollments among countable methods; a student with a qualifying paid enrollment can still count if they also hold a non-qualifying enrollment.

New schools from September 3, 2026 use that policy. Older schools have a separate transition and legacy schedule. Check your school’s applicable rules and billing-period peak count before a large free-course launch or import. This is not a claim that every paid student has an extra fee.

05 / SELL AND FOLLOW UP

Compare the journey from offer to returning buyer

Genesize connects product creation, a storefront, editable funnels, checkout and buyer records. Paid Creator and Business plans add CRM, audience segments, campaigns and automated follow-ups. Live customer marketing sending starts after the first subscription payment; contact and sending allowances apply.

Teachable’s sales tools include product pages, lead magnets, bundles, subscriptions, upsells and cart recovery. Check plan availability and the actual follow-up sequence you need. A cart reminder is a different workflow from a wider customer campaign.

Keep payment-service responsibilities visible too. Teachable promotes tax handling through its payment system. Genesize’s opt-in tax calculation uses a different seller-responsibility model. Review the terms for your chosen setup; this comparison does not treat the services as equivalent or give filing advice.

Neither an AI draft nor a working checkout creates demand on its own. Pick one route to suitable buyers and test a clear offer. Our guide to selling without an audience helps plan that work.

06 / MAKE A PRACTICAL CHOICE

Test one offer before committing or switching

Suggested brief: prepare a client handover

Create a short learning product for a freelance designer handing over a completed website. Supply your own approved notes. Include a handover checklist, a worked example of an access-and-files inventory, one practice task and a way to check the result. Mark missing inputs rather than inventing client details.

This is an original proposed test, not output produced or measured in either platform.

  1. Inspect the material. Can a learner complete the task using the supplied teaching and examples?
  2. Inspect delivery. Check the phone experience, downloads, next lesson and return access. Use approved previews or a sandbox for the purchase flow.
  3. Price the real requirements. Record subscription, processing, optional services, capacity and the tools still missing.
  4. Record unknowns. An untested requirement is not a pass. Keep existing customer access working while you investigate a switch.

Use the free course-platform test sheet to record the evidence. Do not assume content files transfer student history, recurring subscriptions or marketing permission. Confirm each migration path separately before moving an established school.

Choose Genesize for a written-product workflow when creation, packaging and connected selling are your main jobs. Evaluate Teachable for a broader school when its learner tools are essential. If you are comparing other hosted course options, see Genesize vs Thinkific and Genesize vs Kajabi.

07 / YOUR QUESTIONS

Genesize vs Teachable FAQs

Is Genesize an alternative to Teachable?

For ebooks, written courses and practical toolkits, it is worth comparing. Genesize helps with the written product and its selling workflow. Teachable is a broader hosted learning option. If video hosting, graded assessment, a community or certificates are essential, Genesize does not currently replace those tools.

Does Teachable have AI course creation?

Yes. Teachable describes Course Starter as drafting a curriculum, content and sales page. It also documents AI quiz generation and video subtitle and translation tools. Genesize also helps draft written products. Compare the actual teaching output and the learner experience rather than assuming only one platform uses AI.

Does a 0% transaction fee mean there are no payment fees?

No. A platform plan fee and payment processing are different charges. Teachable’s higher plans advertise a 0% plan transaction fee, while processing and applicable payment-bundle charges remain. Genesize takes no platform percentage of Store sales, but Stripe processing and applicable optional services still cost money.

How much does Genesize cost compared with Teachable?

Genesize Starter is $34 USD per month and Creator is $58 on monthly billing. Teachable advertises Starter at $39, Builder at $89 and Growth at $189 per month on monthly billing. These are not equivalent feature sets. Compare capacity, delivery requirements and fees before choosing.

Can I move my existing students and subscriptions automatically?

Do not assume so. Content, student history, access rules, subscriptions and email permission are separate migration tasks. Test a small offer and confirm the supported export and import paths before changing existing student access. This comparison does not claim an automatic transfer between the platforms.

Does Genesize include email marketing?

Creator and Business include customer campaigns and automated follow-ups with contact and sending allowances. Live customer marketing sending starts after the first subscription payment; trial users can prepare drafts. Check the specific audience, trigger and limits you need.

What is included in the Genesize trial?

Eligible new subscribers receive 14 days, 400 total AI credits and up to 3 saved projects. A payment method is required. The selected subscription renews unless canceled before the trial ends. This is a temporary trial, not a permanent free plan.
