Genesize vs Thinkific at a glance
The useful difference is how the product is made and used. A clear written course can teach a process well. A classroom can add video, assessment and learner management. Start with those needs rather than the longest feature list.

Compare what each AI feature actually produces
Genesize helps turn your expertise into written chapters or lessons, with examples and exercises. Add your own source material, review the draft and edit anything that is inaccurate or generic. Prepare a cover and export supported files. The same product can then provide the starting point for an editable sales funnel.
Thinkific’s AI Course Outline Generator builds chapter and lesson titles. Its guide says you still add the lesson content. This describes that specific feature, not every AI tool in Thinkific: the AI Quiz Generator can also draft questions from teaching content.
Thinkific also documents Thinker on Plus, a course-content-based assistant for learners with a credit allowance. Helping a learner ask questions is a different job from writing the original course. Check whether you need authoring help, assessment help or learner support before comparing AI labels.
For a broader shortlist, use our five-tool AI course creator comparison. A long generated outline is not proof that the finished lessons will be useful.
Written lessons or a hosted classroom?
In Genesize, a buyer of a written course can read it online through private purchase access, mark lessons complete and resume saved progress. Supported PDF or DOCX downloads give them another way to use the material. This is useful for a practical process someone wants to read, apply and refer back to.
Genesize does not currently provide a video classroom, graded quizzes, certificates or creator-facing learner reports. Communities and paid memberships are marked as a future release. If one of those is essential to your offer, do not treat a written-course reader as an equivalent replacement.
Thinkific’s hosted course builder supports a classroom built around lesson content. Its Start offer lists video, quizzes, assignments and certificates. Evaluate those tools when you need to see what learners submit or assess before they move on.
Try the learner view on a phone. Can someone find the next step, understand the exercise and return to the right lesson? That matters more than whether an admin dashboard looks impressive.
Genesize and Thinkific pricing
| Plan | Monthly subscription | Why compare it? |
|---|---|---|
| Genesize Starter | $34 | Written-product creation, Storefront, funnels and buyer delivery |
| Genesize Creator | $58 | Adds customer campaigns, CRM and Growth Agent guidance |
| Thinkific Start | $109 | Hosted course and learning tools |
| Thinkific Grow | $219 | Additional business tools, including bulk student email |
Sources: Genesize pricing and Thinkific pricing. These plans are not feature-for-feature equivalents. Thinkific advertises Start at $82 per month with annual billing; that is not a month-to-month offer. Check the amount due upfront before subscribing.
Genesize Starter includes 3 saved projects and 1,000 monthly AI credits. Those are different limits: keeping a project and using AI to create or revise it are separate activities. Manual edits, design changes and exports do not use AI credits. Use the displayed action quote for your chosen course size.
Genesize takes no platform percentage of Store sales; Stripe processing applies. Thinkific’s third-party gateway guide lists an additional 2% for Start and 1% for Grow when the fee applies to your region and Stripe setup. That extra gateway fee does not apply to Thinkific Payments; its processing charges still do. Avoid comparing only the subscription.
Check optional services and who handles tax setup, reporting and filing in your chosen payment route. A checkout tax calculation is not the same as a worldwide filing service. No tax-service equivalence is assumed here.
Use our fee and break-even calculator with your actual costs. Leave a required feature out of neither the budget nor the decision.
Both have email tools. Check the workflow, not just the label.
Paid Genesize Creator and Business plans include CRM, audience segments, campaigns and automated follow-ups. Live customer marketing sending starts after the first subscription payment; eligible trial users can prepare drafts. Contact and sending allowances apply.
Thinkific documents built-in Email Automation for sales follow-up, including templates and AI-assisted email copy. Its abandoned-cart feature depends on Thinkific Payments. Mass User Email is a separate feature on Grow and selected higher or legacy plans. Do not assume all email tools require the same plan.
Test the message you actually need: who enters the sequence, what stops it, and what you can measure. Thinkific’s automation guide says its email-automation performance stats stopped updating on September 17, 2026. That note concerns those flow statistics, not every analytics feature on the platform.
Use the same small course brief on both platforms
Prepare a useful client discovery call
“Help a new freelance consultant prepare a 30-minute discovery call. Include a short lesson on finding the client’s real problem, a worked question list, a practice exercise and a call recap template. Use my notes and flag details that need my input.”
This is an original suggested test, not a result from running the brief in either product.
- Inspect the teaching. Does the lesson explain why a question helps? Can a learner complete the exercise without you filling in missing steps?
- Inspect the format. For a written offer, check reading, downloads and progress. For a video offer, add one real recording and test its lesson and assessment flow.
- Inspect the purchase. Use supported previews or a sandbox to check the price, payment route and buyer access. An editor preview does not prove delivery after payment.
- Record the gaps. List extra tools, manual work and untested requirements before committing to a plan.
Use the free platform comparison scorecard to keep the test consistent. For a real example of written teaching material, inspect our manually authored sample course.
Keep a record of the test
Use the free printable course-platform test sheet to record the lesson, buyer experience, missing requirements and full monthly cost. Print it or save a blank copy as a PDF. It needs no signup and sends no form answers to Genesize.
Four checks for a useful lesson
A lesson can look finished and still leave the learner stuck. Use these checks on one lesson before judging the whole course. This is an editorial checklist, not a measured score for either platform.
- A clear result: Can the learner say what they will be able to do by the end?
- A worked example: Does it show a complete example and explain the choices, rather than just list tips?
- An action to take: Can the learner try the skill using the instructions and materials provided?
- A way to check: Is there a sample answer, checklist or explanation that helps them spot a mistake?
Record each as “shown,” “needs work” or “not tested,” with a lesson reference. Keep unknowns visible. A tool that drafts a lesson still needs your review; a tool that hosts it does not prove the teaching is effective.
Which should you choose?
Shortlist Genesize if the product is mainly written and you need help creating it, packaging it and connecting the selling steps. It is especially worth testing when a useful guide or written learning path is the product itself.
Shortlist Thinkific if the student experience needs a broader hosted classroom. A required video, assessment or community feature can matter more than a lower starting subscription.
If you already have customers, test before switching. List the lessons, access, subscriptions and support you promised. Check what can be exported and rebuilt. Do not assume learner history, recurring payments or email permissions move with a file. Keep existing access working while you test a new offer.
Match the choice to one real offer
- A consultant selling a written client process: Test Genesize’s draft, examples, downloads and private reader. Judge the finished teaching and delivery, not the number of pages generated.
- A trainer who needs video and graded assessment: Evaluate Thinkific’s classroom against those requirements. Genesize’s current written-course reader does not meet that brief.
- A creator with an established school: Start with a small new offer. Prove the required access and support workflow before planning any move of existing learners.
These are illustrative decisions, not customer stories or promises of sales. Choose the workflow that meets the offer you can deliver today.

Genesize vs Thinkific FAQs
Is Genesize an alternative to Thinkific?
Yes, when you want to create and sell an ebook, written course or practical toolkit. Thinkific is the stronger fit to evaluate when hosted video lessons, graded assessments, certificates or a community are required. Genesize does not currently replace those classroom features.
Which costs less, Genesize or Thinkific?
Genesize Starter is $34 USD per month on monthly billing. Thinkific currently advertises Start at $109 USD per month on monthly billing. These are different products, not equivalent plans. Include required learning features, email tools, payment processing and any extra services before deciding.
Does Thinkific AI write a complete course?
Its documented AI Course Outline Generator creates chapter and lesson titles; you still add the teaching content. Thinkific also documents AI-generated quiz questions and Thinker, a learner-facing teaching assistant on Plus. Those tools do different jobs. Check the exact feature and plan instead of treating every AI tool as a full course writer.
Can Genesize host video lessons or issue course certificates?
Not currently. Genesize has a reader for purchased written courses, manual lesson completion, saved progress and PDF or DOCX downloads. It does not currently provide a video classroom, graded quizzes, certificates or creator-facing learner reports. Choose by the experience your students actually need.
Does Thinkific include email marketing?
Thinkific documents built-in Email Automation for sales follow-up. Mass User Email is a separate feature available on Grow and selected higher or legacy plans. In Genesize, Creator and Business include campaigns and follow-ups, with live marketing sending after the first subscription payment. Verify limits and the actual sequence before choosing.
Can I move an existing course between the platforms automatically?
Do not assume so. Review content formats, learner access, completed work, recurring payments and email permissions separately. An exported document does not transfer a school, subscriptions or learner history. Test a small new offer before changing access for existing customers.
What does the Genesize free trial include?
Eligible new subscribers receive 14 days, 400 total AI credits and up to 3 saved projects. A payment method is required and the selected paid subscription renews unless canceled. It is a temporary trial, not a permanent free plan.
